OVER 20 MILLION KAPI·BARA·SAN PLUSH HAVE SOLD IN JAPAN
SINCE BRAND DEBUT IN 2005

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 9, 2012) – Banpresto Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Namco Bandai Games Inc., has named Los Angeles-based Syncretic Media, Inc., an affiliate company of Sync Beatz Entertainment, as the exclusive United States and Canada Merchandising & Licensing Agent and Brand Manager for a new collection of lifestyle products inspired by the cute, or “Kawaii,” as known in Japanese culture, “Kapi·Bara·San.

From its 2005 introduction by Banpresto as a “Kapi•Bara•San” series of adorable oversized plush and photo books throughout Japan, this collection has evolved into a line of toys and products spanning more than 25 lifestyle categories. As Kapi·Bara·San captured the hearts and imagination of millions, the passion, imagination and demand of its fans resulted in an array of licensed branded products, three dedicated Kapi·Bara·San stores, a Kapi·Bara·San Café which provides an original menu named after Kapi·Bara·San, and a portfolio of branded music and Concert events featuring the cuddly, collectible characters.

Inspired by the capybara, a cousin to the guinea pig that’s recognized as the world’s largest animal of its kind, Banpresto transformed the animal into the cute Kapi·Bara·San character, and introduced the property as plush prizing in over 4000 coin-operated crane machines throughout Japan. In the seven years since, Kapi·Bara·San has become a “Kawaii” phenomenon, a character that everyone knows – particularly teenage girls and women in their 20’s. Today, Kapi·Bara·San has become a multi-million dollar intellectual property, with 26 licensees covering most major licensing categories from electronics and apparel to stationery and furniture.

The appointment will enable Syncretic Media to introduce Kapi·Bara·San to prospective American licensees and retailers at the upcoming Toy Fair 2012 in New York. The property will be featured at the trade show by Hong Kong-headquartered Dream International USA, which Syncretic Media has named as the brand’s plush licensee for United States. Mr. Naruo Uchida, President, Syncretic Media, will be on hand at the Dream International booth (#1265) to discuss marketing plans for the U.S. rollout of the adorable property.

Hong Kong-based Dream International Ltd. (a subsidiary of C&H Co., Ltd.) was founded in 1984. Today, it is one of the largest and most respected toy manufacturers in Asia, producing plush stuffed toys as well as steel and plastic children’s products for some of the world’s most respected kids’ brands. The organization has offices throughout the world, including a U.S. location in Buena Park, California.

“We are honored to be offering the Kapi·Bara·San brand and eager to meet with our retail partners as we create a compelling contemporary line of products that reflects the vitality of Kapi·Bara·San that will captivate the American audience,” said James Wang, EVP /GM of Dream International USA.

Its broad-ranging line-up, which targets a wide range of consumer demographics, reflects the company’s reputation for creative presentation in capturing innovative ideas and playful humor.
